A rosebud is an unopened flower of a rose, and also in very old times it used to mean a pretty young woman. In this case, the "Rosebud" princess is the youngest of the "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" story. However, she is only named "Rosebud" by one of the very modern narrations of the old, evil tale. The youngest of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" was called originally "Lacey", who in most of the versions of these stories of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses", was only 5 years old. It is nice to know that Disney also came up with a version of the old story.
Most of the early versions of this tale tended to depict the princesses as kind of evil. It was Jim Weiss around 1989, who gave the youngest princess the nickname "Rosebud". Weiss came up with a CD called "CD Best Loved Stories" where he decided to change the character of the 12 princesses toward goodness, instead of maleficent. This costume refers to the youngest princess in Weiss' CD.
