Jack Sparrow was inspired by the violent life of John Ward, who was born around 1553 and died around 1622.  John Ward was an outlandish and fearless sailor that used to terrorise the Mediterranean with a complete absence of morals.  It is not very surprising that this English pirate was an inspiration for Captain Jack Sparrow and the stories about The Pirates of the Caribbean.
