This costume is really great for Halloween, or for Book Week. It is very historical and your child will be able to learn some aspects of our history..

Gladiators were a part of our rather sad history.  Gladiators were mainly slaves in the Roman Empire, even females sometimes, and rarely they could even be just volunteers. Gladiators were usually strong and very physically capable, and even in some occasions quite smart.

Perhaps, we could say that in our modern world there may be some examples of similar characters, for instance in the field of Martial Arts, and even in our "enjoyable" and special sport competitions, including the Olympic Games. They were active in ancient Rome probably between 300 BC until perhaps 500+ AC.

One interesting historic event related to Gladiators is the rebellion of around 70,000 gladiators against the Empire commanded by a very notorious Gladiator called "Spartacus". That rebellion happened around the years 73 BC and 70 BC, and for the unfortunate sake of the rebels, it just did not succeed.
