Venetian Masks

The masks in this category are made by hand in Venice - Italy. They are made by different artists, some working within specialised businesses, and some working as independent operators that supply larger businesses. As a consequence of the nature of the manufacturing, the appearance of masks of the same nominal code or name is rarely identical to one another. There can be differences in color, patterns, color of the ribbons, and in some extreme cases even differences in the shape of the masks.

When we perceive, (subjectively), that the differences of a mask are more than minor, we may assign the mask a different code and name, and we take new photographs of the item. Nonetheless, as practically there is no mask identical to another one, the photos you see in our website may depict a mask that differ slightly in color, patterns, color of the ribbons, and some other details from the one we may ship to you. It is a very different case for masks that are machine-made, where the differences can be considered defects of manufacturing, and not a change of will of the artist making the mask.
